I'm in the market for a 2nd S3 or the new Tivo HD.

About to pull the trigger on an HD but have given pause to wondering if another rebate will emerge like the fathers day special which brought the net to $400.00.

I'm thinking $100.00 premium over the HD is worth it, but that's about it. Certainly not $300.00 more.

Of course I don't want to wait forever for a rebate offer for the S3 that could be long in coming. I'm kicking myself for not buying one in June....

Opinions?

I can't see many S3s selling anymore in the $600 range. $100 premium over Tivo HD seems to be about right IMO so either another rebate or a permanent price drop to $400 range IMO is needed to keep inventory moving.

I think I would wait a bit. There are a few S3 issues that may not be fixable in the S3 but may be fixed in the HD. These are issues that Tivo, Inc. has discussed publicly to my knowledge. My original plan was to have a second S3 in the bedroom, but without cable cards. If the HD does better in that environment than the S3, then the HD would be the obvious choice, even if they cost the same. I don't think we have an in depth knowledge of S3 vs HD on all features. I would hope we would see more in the next month as they are seen in the wild in different scenarios.

I guess I need to decide how long I want to wait... Already been without my 2nd Tivo for more than a month.... Of course buying now gets me in the unit now but with a little less storage and the other niceties of the S3. But, maybe not that important for the 2nd (Bedroom) Tivo....

I wonder if the HD is as quiet as the S3.... Anyone have both care to comment?

Can you provide some details on what those issues are?
