I have recently switched from Direct TV to Comcast Cable. I was told by comcast that the DSR708 is compatible with their Cable card. Is this true, and how do I get by the change card menu which tells me I am not allowed to change this card?

The Dsr708 ONLY works with DIRECTV, If you want tivo with your Comcast you can get Tivo DT or Tivo HD or TivoS3.

The TiVo Series2 Dual Tuner (DT) DVR enables you to record from two basic cable channels, or one basic cable and one digital cable channel, at once. TiVo Series2 Dual Tuner (DT) DVR does not support recording from two digital cable or satellite channels at once. Also note that these models support recording from cable and satellite sources only; does not support recording from over-the-air antenna.

The TiVo® HD and TiVo® Series3™ HD (high-definition) box works with digital cable and is supported by all major cable providers. They are also compatible with analog cable, analog antenna and over-the-air digital HD (ATSC). Please note that 2 CableCARD decoders required (available from your cable provider) to record 2 digital cable shows at once. Not compatible with satellite television.

The DirecTV access card and cablecard are two completely different and non-interchangeable technologies. You couldn't fit the cablecard into an access card slot if you tried, at least not without cutting some sheet metal and destroying the card holder in the process.
