I have a TiVo Series 3 (bought the week before the rebate -- argh!).
It is connected through a HDMI switching receiver (Sony STR-DA5200ES), to a 1080 LCD (Sharp LC-52D92U).
The TiVo is set to "native/pass-through" for the HD formats, so 480 shows are sent as 480, 720 as 720 etc. The receiver additionally does pass-through of HDMI (no re-conversion), so the TV is doing up-conversion for display. The TV setting in the TiVo is 16:9.
The problem I'm having is that non-HD TiVo material (including downloads) has a slightly bad aspect ratio. When I view in Panel mode, the image is slightly too narrow. When I view in Full mode, the image is noticeably too wide (as expected). In Zoom mode, it's still slightly too narrow (same aspect as Panel).
Other sources (DVD, Blu-Ray, PS/3, Xbox 360, receiver's set-up screens) all appear to have the right aspect ratio.
If I set the TiVo to up-scale to 1080i for all program material, it doesn't give me the wrong aspect ratio, but the TiVo scaler doesn't look as good as the TV built-in scaler.
What can I do to trouble-shoot and fix this? Anyone seen the same problem?
