Series 3 $199 at Amazon??

5713 Views 50 Replies 33 Participants Last post by  megazone
I looked at amazon.com for the TiVO series 3 and they list it at $199.99 after two $200 mail in rebates.

Am I looking at this right? How would I get two mail in rebates?

Thanks in advance!

When you click on "Click here to see the price" it does show price after rebates=$199. However, if you then click on Add to Cart you will see it goes in as $599.99 unfortunately. If they really did have it for $200 total after rebate I would snap up 2 of them without blinking.
Seriously doubt that there are two rebates for a single Tivo.

Not to mention, the wait time to get those rebates in the mail, if at all..

I have not got that first rebate from Best Buy.... Everytime I see a rebate listed on a product from BB, I tell them, I'll take the rebate now plz... That gets em going at BB...lol
probably a rebate price mistake but since it's a rebate mistake and not a price mistake, I would not risk it for $200. Amazon policy would screw you here.

if you look at both rebate forms.... they are the same.... same promotion number. It looks like Amazon messed up. One rebate might be valid and $399 is not a bad price if you are in the market.
YOU can get a box direct from Tivo.com with a $200 rebate. Or, pick up a refurbished one for $400, and that includes a wireless NIC.
I just called TiVo customer support, and the agent said the offer is likely legit as amazon is contracted with TiVo for this sort of thing and they can offer amazon rebate in addition to TiVo rebates.

One difference between the offers is that one was in box and the other was online printable. Interestingly, the online one which was viewable accepted a clear copy of the UPC code rather than the original. Also, the two listed rebates have different due dates.

Finally, I got call back from amazon after internet request who state the 2 rebates were different and said both were legit.

At the risk of losing out here and have them go out of stock, I'm gonna wait till someone confirms this before I plunge in. Save one for me all right !!

I don't get it.

When I looked at both rebates (twice today), they are identical.... the download PDFs were different filenames but the content was identical. How are you seeing different wording or terms?????
I'm 100% certain this is a mistake since each of the two $200 rebates says that they can't be combined with any other offer. That and the fact that they are in fact the same rebate.
I read and was told one comes in the box pre-printed for you and the other you print from online and send in.

Either they are different and amazon linked them errantly to the same form

or

they are the same and both will be honored (unlikely as you say)

Still not taking the plunge.

As the rebate(s) are mail-in rebates; the Amazon.com shopping cart will show you the item sale price, which is $200 off the list price, then you mail-in the rebate forms to get the rest of the money off the item cost.

One rebate in it the box itself the other is the normal on-line rebate. I never saw a in-the-box rebate from TiVo before.
add in that I'd never trust the word of a single Customer Support agent, while they mean well, they have been known to occasionally not have the most accurate of information.

me neither.

I asked Amazon about the duplicate rebate forms and got this reply:

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.

I am glad to take this opportunity to address you in this regard.

I have checked our website for the item that you mentioned your
message and confirm that it qualifies for $400 rebate. I hope this
information is helpful.

Sounds like a script-reader to me. Even if the $400 in rebates are valid, sounds like a huge hassle if the wrong forms are used.

Will Amazon honor the price on their site? On price mistakes, I know they won't but they obviously have to correct the error before charging you and shipping the item. I don't know what would happen on a rebate or what, if any, recourse we have to get the money back. I want one and would jump on this in a heartbeat if I knew I could get both rebates.
No matter what the Customer Service reps say, do not trust them. Amazon customer service is in India or Philippines depending on the time of day you call or email. When you emailed them about the rebate, the person probably just looked at the page of the item, saw the 2 rebates and is telling you both are valid. Of course since everyone here is a Tivo fanactic, we know about all the rebates and the 2nd one raises suspicion. Both rebate links on Amazon point to the exact same rebate, I'd be willing to bet that who ever in India that setup the website just got it mixed up.

Of course, it is possible that maybe Amazon is having an extra rebate.

If it was a price mistake, I would jump on it because it would be honored usually for the first few, but a rebate mistake is a big pain in the butt, especially for $200 is not worth the hoops you'd have to go through.

Amazon will certainly tell you the processing of rebates is not their responsibility.

buyer beware!!
Damn, that's a deal if it will go through. I'm tempted to pick one up.

$199 price point for HD, Tivo, you listening? Can you get your box price production down to that price?
