Hi! I have a question about the ability of a TIVO series 1 making it's daily call over the VOIP provider "magicjack". I am interested in "magicjack" and I already searched the term "magicjack", nothing is available. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Well my condition is not better then yours, I have a series 1 Tivo, lifetime subscription. Trying to find best (cheapest) way to hook it to the internet. I don't use a home phone for anything else, I now have cable internet through Adelphia aka Comcast. I have found where people have hooked it to Vonage ( internet phone but you still pay a "phone bill") or where they have hooked it with a turbonet card (costs less than $50) however you have to open the Tivo unit to install this. The unit belongs to my daughter, she bought a newer series. So before I beg my kid to let me open the Tivo and operate on it is there another way?

If you have a computer nearby running XP or WIN2000 (Vista maybe) that connects to the internet you can use PPP over serial. By nearby I mean 60 ft or so but you must run a cable.

The cable costs less than 5.00 if you make it yourself and there is no need to open the TiVo.

This is what I use for 2 of my DTiVos.
