ThanksI would PM the serial #. Otherwise, an unscrupulous seller could post your picture as his own, scamming someone into a lifetime unit they don't actually have. I've sold several Tivos and only provided the number upon request. Same goes for other things I've sold that have serial numbers - musical instruments, etc.
I personally would not bid on a Tivo unless I was able to confirm the TSN with Tivo support first. Many are not as described. I've seen lifetime units that don't actually have lifetime and even Tivos stolen from cable companies which are essentially door stops. No TSN, no sale as far as I'm concerned. I've been burned too many times before. Why do they need to know the TSN in advance? I would not provide it until after the auction ends.
Ebay and Paypal have mechanisms in place to resolve these problems of which I have never experienced. If you give someone the TSN of a box that you currently own they can ask Tivo to terminate service on the box, move it to another account or use it for any lifetime transfer offers that may arise without your knowledge. I'd rather deal with Ebay/Paypal than Tivo if a problem arises therefore the TSN stays with me until after the sale.I personally would not bid on a Tivo unless I was able to confirm the TSN with Tivo support first. To reassure a buyer without providing the full TSN, take photos of both the TSN on the DVR and the TSN on the info screen showing the lifetime/all-in service and obscure all but the last 4-5 digits on the TSN in both photos.Ebay and Paypal have mechanisms in place to resolve these problems of which I have never experienced. That's a great compromise. I wish I had thought of it.To reassure a buyer without providing the full TSN, take photos of both the TSN on the DVR and the TSN on the info screen showing the lifetime/all-in service and obscure all but the last 4-5 digits on the TSN in both photos.
