I own two R10 units and one of them started locking up on the Welcome screen. I wanted to isolate the problem, so I took the good HD out of my working unit and installed it in the damaged R10. It booted but I could not access the recordings on it - this leads me to my question... do I need to do anything special when adding a drive?

I thought I'd clone the working HD onto a blank/new HD and get the damaged unit back up and running but I'm worried there may be other steps involved.

ps- why did DirecTV ditch Tivo? I hate their units... ugh!

Most likely reason I've heard here is because Directv didn't want to pay Tivo $1 per month per Directivo unit in circulation.

Do you guys have a recommendation/how-to to clone a HD for my DirecTV TIVO?

A while back I recall there being a special linux boot disk to handle the process but I cant find the link and I'm not sure if this is still the recommended process.

Thanks in advance-

Essentially I want to take my working drive and clone it to a spare ata drive I own.
