Is there anyway to have TiVo record all new airings of a show regardless of what channel it's on?

When I was using SageTV I could just tell it to record all new episodes of Lost for example and it would record it regardless of what channel it was on. The advantage of this is that it would shuffle your shows around and record them on different channels to get them all recorded regardless of conflicts.

The reason I ask this is because I just missed House being recorded tonight because the channel Fox was on changed last week and I forgot to change the season pass so the Tivo tried to record a channel I don't get anymore.

The problem with wish lists though is that they are too inclusive. Doing a wish list for house would result in recordings of this old house, houses gone wild, the house in the attic, etc...

I've tried to use wish lists for new shows that are coming out next season so I don't forget to look for them, but my Tivo fills up with hundreds of nonsense shows.

Is there any way to do like a google search and do an exclusive search? Like using quotes or symbols? i.e. "house" would only record house, and not this old house. Some way to tell Tivo that you've given it the entire title and not to return matches that have more in them than what you typed?

I assumed there was not, so I gave up on wishlists. Maybe I'm wrong though...?

Hmm... I'll have to see how mine works now or soon... I have a philips 7000 DirecTV Tivo and there is a software update coming in January or something that catches some things up (like the recycle bin - although I couldn't care about that part). Maybe this update will fix the wishlists too.

Even without the new 9.1 wishlists, there are still usually ways to restrict wishlists can cut back on unwanted recording. Using your example of 'House', a common trick would be to use a keyword wishlist for HOUSE "HUGH LAURIE", instead of a title wishlist for HOUSE.

Since keywords include actors, that restricts you to programs that have the word "House" and the phrase "Hugh Laurie" in them. It might still catch talk show appearances, but would filter out This Old House, Houses Gone Wild, etc...

Another way to filter out unwanted matches is to use the show type options. A title wishist for "HOUSE" & Show Type/Drama would also block a lot of home improvement type shows. The avalible show type are on the screen just after you enter the wishlist text. The default is 'All', and the 1st option below it is 'Movies', but if you scroll down there are a bunch of options.

Note that I did not say to use an auto-record title wish list

Yes, I follow you. I just haven't looked deep enough into the wishlists to be fluent in them. Good info, thank you.

Of course, you'll always have the issue of incomplete guide data... Now and then I see a show listed with title, but no info in the description, or very little info. I usually notice it when I have a show set to record only first runs and get a repeat recorded because the guide data is not complete. The description on those shows are usually something like "a show about a guy".

I'm glad it errors on the side of caution though instead of skipping shows I wanted.
