Samsung SIRS4120R Aspect Ratio Setting?

Does the "Aspect Ratio" setting on the Samsung SIRS4120R actually do anything?

It appears to display everything exactly the same on my 16:9 screen whether I choose 4:3 or 16:9.

It generates questions, but not as many as the window button. (actually have not seen that in a while)

On some DTivos it changes the aspect of the menus. It seems to have no other effect.

On Standard Definition DVRs the "Aspect Ratio" setting does nothing.
