First of all, hello and thanks to all.

A friend of mine recently gave me a Samsung DirecTV DVR SIR-S4040R.
I know is some what old, but it gets the job done, and I have some questions on how to set it up.

1. I already have DirecTV. Can I use the card I have in my current box, or the one that I got the Samsung box?

2. Do I need to get the Second antenna hooked up? What are the benefits for this?

Thanks for your time.

Welcome to Tivo Community!

1. You cannot use your current box's Access Card, but you might be able to activate the Tivo using the Samsung's card. You'll find out when you call DirecTV. Hopefully your friend properly deactivated this Tivo from their account, or you may have problems activating it on your account.

2. The second tuner is handy for recording two different shows at the same time, or allowing you to recording one show while watching a different show live. Just run a second coax cable from the Tivo back to your satellite dish or multiswitch. Hopefully you have an unused satellite connection there.
