My Series3 is doing something similar -- twice this week I have come home to find the Series3 will not respond to any remote commands. I know it's getting a signal from the remote, because the TiVo makes the "bong" sound, indicating an error. But it won't go to Tivo central, it won't rewind, it won't pause -- nothing.
I had to unplug it for a hard reset, and then it worked fine. But I don't want to do that every day!
Is this a 9.1 issue that will soon be fixed, or should I be calling TiVo technical support about this?
