Got the 9.1 update a few days ago, on both the S3 and Toshivo SD-H400. When I got home from work tonight my wife informed me the s3 was broke. Any button press on the remote except for TV functions, resulted in a "bonk" sound. Only volume up/down, and tv input worked. Tivo was displaying one of the two live tv items it was recording. No guide, or position bar at the bottom of the screen. Pause etc. did nothing but "bonk". I finally pressed the clear button and it I didn't get the "bonk" sound for a few button presses, and then it came back. I suspect there was a menu or message that was requesting input, but was not displayed. Tried to enter 911 clear but just got more "bonk". Pulled the power cord and waited for it to reboot. Seem to work OK for at least another hour, and came upstairs to bed.

S3 has two cable cards on Comcast.

By chance did you hit live tv from a recorded show? The S3/Tivo HD/S2 DT are known to have this issue when hitting live tv from a recorded show. The only "fix" is to reboot.
Don't know, but very possible. It was in this state when I got home and asking my wife what she did just before this happened would have been pointless. The first thought was that she was on the wrong TV input, but she had looped through to make sure the TV was on "Tivo".

I just saw this same behavior tonight - any key "bonks", as if it's waiting for input on a hidden prompt screen.

We hadn't touched it all day - seemed fine last night, "bonking" tonight.

Rebooting now..
Did you try the clear button? I'm pretty sure that answered the hidden prompt. I wish I had tried a few more things after doing that before rebooting it.

Yes - I saw your post while it was still in this state - but Clear didn't work for me. I tried every button on the remote, and the front panel - it didn't take any input.

I've seen something similar once or twice: I think I was watching Live TV, and hit the Tivo button just as the OS popped up a msg "Tivo needs to change the channel to record XYZ...", and I think the main menu took over the screen, but the "ok to change channel" prompt had captured the input - and it got very confused. Ended up rebooting in this case too.
