Hello all... I'm a new TiVo user. I recently found an older S2 single tuner at a pawn shop. I decided to buy it (got it REAL cheap!) with the intention of upgrading the HD with a 200GB Maxtor (ATA) drive I have.

So I used WinMFS Beta Build 4 to copy the OEM 80GB WD to a 120GB WD I have. I wanted to make sure I could get this to work before I pulled the 200GB Maxtor out of my Windows Home Server machine. The 120GB (and 80GB) works just fine but the 200GB tiles recorded videos and live shows.

The "settings" screen shows a maximum recording time "up to 219 hours" with the 200GB drive. So I know the TiVo sees it's a bigger drive. I was thinking maybe it might have been some kinda BIOS type deal only able to read "up to" a certain size GB like older computers had.

I also tried resetting and clearing the unit hoping a fresh delete/format (or whatever the TiVo does) would help the file system, but it's still tiling. So for now I am using the 120GB.

The TiVo has the current software version 8.3-01something or another...

BTW... The build date on the machine is 17-OCT-02... Model number TCD240080... It also seems that this TiVo's prior owner had purchased a Lifetime Service contract for it. And did I mention I bought this for $30 plus tax? :p

I searched the forum and couldn't find a thread with a similar issue. If more information on my side is needed just let me know and I'll post it.

UPDATE

I have reinstalled the 200GB Maxtor into my home server system. I've removed the 160GB WD from my home server system.

I again used WinMFS to copy to the 160 to make it work. I have been using the 160 for a couple days now and have not had any tiling problems as before with the 200...

Max recording time from the 160 shows to be "up to" 175 hours.

Obviously, I don't know very much about this stuff. But I would like to know how you were able to upgrade a series 2 to HD compatibility. I have a Pioneer 810 (dvd recorder model) 80G hard drive with a lifetime sub. The problem is that all my media content (cablevision/OI digital) is high definition and the pioneer tivo is not compatable (no component cable or hdmi connectivity). Is there any way to modify the input/output on this machine to make record and work in HD?

thanks

I think Al-Mann is talking about HD (Hard Drive) not High Def. :)
