Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a new router. I'm giving up on my Belkin which has never allowed me to connect via the ethernet connection. So I'm hoping for a recommendation(s) from people with Series 3's and routers where they had no problems like I had. If they are excellent routers for other reasons as well, I would like to hear that, too.

Any help is appreciated,

Thos.

Routers should be plug-and-play. WiFi is the hard side of it -- wired is easy. It's bizarre that your Belkin wouldn't work wired.

Currently I'm using a Verizon-supplied Actiontec; before that, an old Linksys BEFW11S4, IIRC. But the connection also runs through one (upstairs) or two (downstairs) switches on the way. No problems with any of this, although I did have some trouble with a Netgear WPN824 that I tried briefly (not Tivo-related -- it wouldn't talk to one of the switches, and the WiFi never worked properly).

I like the WRT54GL a little pricey but easily flashed to 3rd party software like DD-WRT.
I would definitely get a newer router than that. While you can hack it with 3rd party software, newer routers come with most of the hacks DD-WRT provides right out of the box now. Currently, I'm using a D-link DIR-625 and it has much better performance than my WRT54G ever had. Also, it supports dhcp reservations which makes port forwarding much easier.

My DLink DGL-4300 works great for wireless and wired plus it has 4 gigabit ports.

Good point.
