i recieved a survey on my tivo experience and they also said there was a software update for the roamio
does anyone know how to get this update?
You don't "get" updates. TiVo puts them on your box and they get loaded with a restart or in the early morning. If you are running TE4, the latest update is: 21.10..2.v21 which does not seem to have any effect.

TE3 hasn't had any updates in a while, and its software starts with 20.

Are you using the "old" TE3 experience? Could it be talking about TE4? If so then DON'T DO IT!!!!

I started the survey, since it was there, and about the same time I noticed how long it was, I noticed it appears to be prefilled with your answers, so I just quit. o_O

Here is what was said in the survey
A new version of the TiVo user interface is available to TiVo Roamio and TiVo Bolt users. This is a free software upgrade that includes new features like voice control (voice-enabled remote required) and a completely redesigned user experience.

I see lots of comments about how terrible TE4 is.
I upgraded to it years back, and it took me about 1 week to get used to it. I wouldn't go back to TE3.
Not everyone agrees that TE4 is the worst thing since New Coke.
Just my 2 cents.
What TiVo do you have? I have a Roamio and TE4 was a lot of headaches with the sluggishness, bugs, crashes, and ads. You'd think they would have stabilized it by now but I'm thinking they just don't care about the Roamios. After using TE4 for a few months, going back to TE3 was a breath of fresh air, like getting a new TiVo. It's not the interface/GUI that's the issue, its the sluggishness, bugs, crashes, and ads.

I've got a Roamio OTA with a 500GB HDD. I can't remember the last crash I had. I don't use any of the apps, I have a Roku for that. Perhaps I just have a high tolerance for that kind of thing, but my wife would disagree.
Interesting. I don't use any of the apps either. I did put a 3TB HD in my Roamio though. Perhaps you weren't "spoiled" with the TE3 interface so you can tolerate TE4 on the Roamio. :)

But if TE4 is as sluggish on your TiVo as it was on my Roamio then you'd probably be amazed at how much better TE3 runs on it.

I have a Roamio Plus and don’t experience any bugs, crashes or sluggishness with TE4.

It’s greatly improved since it came out in fall of 2017.

Many of its detractors are still soured by their initial experience 4 years ago.

It’s completely usable for day to day use unless you must have the TiVo guide view or transfer shows from an external location.

Interesting. I used TE4 up until recently (about a week ago). The forced ads (which often didn't even work right) and occasionally crashes and other issues made me go back to TE3 and I am very glad I did. Oh, one super annoyance/bug was that I disabled 4K video modes on my Mini VOX, because my receiver doesn't support it, but at least two times it seemed to revert to a 4K signal, so I didn't get a picture until I had to reconnect it direct to my 4K TV and change the setting back. It was another waste of time and swapping cables is not fun with my setup. TE3 just works, like a TiVo should.

When I first "upgraded" to TE4 a few months ago I thought they must have had plenty of time to get all the kinks... but I guess not.

I'm just surprised if anyone says they didn't experience any bugs, crashes, and sluggishness because I sure did, and that was up to about 1 week ago when I made the switch back to TE3... this is all on a Roamio.

Albert,
Just wondering. Have you upgraded you power supply to one of 3 amps? Reboots are a common problem with the standard supplied power supply. Mine would occasionally reboot during a period of a week or two and the be fine for a while. I upgraded the power supply and so far so good!

Actually I did. I went with this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HNV6SBJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title

It's possible that it improved the crashing and rebooting, but it didn't eliminate it entirely (though I can't say with certainty that it improved the reliability).
