Roamio RF Remote

I'm trying to get a VOX remote to pair with my Roamio Plus. I have 3 VOX remotes and have tried to get all of them to pair, but no luck....

Tried...

Power off my other 2 mini's to ensure no interference.

Using a VOX remote that worked fine on my Bolt.

Listing the steps.... maybe someone else can use them.....

Sitting in front of the DVR.

Clear all remotes from the DVR..
1. Press the Live TV button to go to Live TV
2. Press Clear, Enter, Clear, 221, Clear
3. The DVR should be in Pairing Mode

Next.... Did a Global reset....
1. Simultaneously press and hold the TiVo + TV Power buttons for approximately 3 seconds. The activity indicator LED should turn on and stay on.
2. Press Thumbs Down 3 times and press the enter key. The LED will blink 3 times and reboot.

After the Restart. Tried to pair my VOX remote
1. Press TiVo + Red C until the activity light flashes red (remote has to be in IR mode to pair)
2. Go to MENU > SETTINGS > REMOTE, CABLECARD & DEVICES > REMOTE CONTROL SETUP > 3. Followed the onscreen instructions.

ZIP, Nadda. Nothing. Shows "Not Paired." Tried 3 different vox remotes.

Also tried using an RF dongle and followed the same process.

I'm trying to get a VOX remote to work in RF mode, but so far, no luck. Also tried changing the default IR address before pairing. No difference. Note, runs fine in IR mode, but does not pair. May not have too just for IR.

Calling TiVo and the rep just reads the script from their website. No real help. The best one was the rep wanted to do a hard reset. But I actually just did that when I installed a new hard drive about 3 months ago.

Did I miss anything?

That is wrong, since IR doesn't need to be paired, just the RF, need to be in RF (Tivo + D) to pair on the RF screen. You can use IR to navigate to the pairing screen, then switch to RF.

That is wrong...... "TiVo+D" does NOT work on VOX remotes..... Multiple posting on this....

Tivo docs say the remote has to be in IR mode to pair into RF. I'm just following TiVo's process..... My problem is NO remote will pair in RF. Navigating to the pair screen does nothing for me.
Don't knock it until you tried it.

Been there, done that.... "Tivo+D" does not work on 3 VOX remotes.
Isn't the VOX remote Bluetooth? Do you have the USB dongle and are you running TE4 (Hydra)?

You are correct, and yes, using a USB dongle and TE4.
I just got my Tivo Roamio Plus, 1 Tivo Mini 92000, and 1 Tivo Mini 93000 paired with new Vox Remotes w/dongles.

Mind you it does take some patience and I honestly had to do it several times with each box before it took.

I did clear remote pairing several times at random on each box and then had to hold the 'Tivo Button' along with the 'back' button at the same time. Let it turn solid red and then let the buttons go. It always went into the slow orange light slow blink and then sometimes it would pair and sometimes it would not (fast orange blinking light).

If it did seem to pair I unplugged the box and restarted it.

Again, I wish I had a method to tell you how to do it. All I know is that eventually it did work for me.

Also, once the Vox remote is paired w/a dongle it is not interchangeable with another.

Here's how I cleared the remote pairing:
1. Tivo Button
2. Menu
3. Settings
4. Remote, CableCARD, & Devices
5. Remote Control Setup
6. Reset Remote Control Pairing

Appreciate the help... Been there, done that. TiVo 2nd level support sent me an email asking me to use the "TiVo+D" option. I had to let so called 2nd level support know that a VOX remote does not support that option.
I'm thinking that the VOX remote is BLUETOOTH and not RF. I need to get an RF remote and I'll bet it will work. BUT... using the dongle with the VOX should work.
My fix.... Purchased a "Next Generation Remote Control Range Extender" from Amazon. Works perfect.

TiVo support didn't respond to my issue. The tech support folks are probably hanging out with the ad-skip folks.
The VOX remote is Bluetooth. The Roamio supports RF, but not Bluetooth (which is a specific RF protocol). In order to use the Vox remote on the Roamio, you need a Bluetooth dongle. The only one that works is the TiVo one. See here: Bluetooth Dongle for TiVo VOX Remote (includes USB extension cable) - TiVo Part - WeaKnees - the DVR Superstore

Edit: I also believe you need to be using the TE4 interface, not TE3.

Been there, done that. No joy. Ended up using my TiVo mini as my main device and placed my Roamio in my home office. Also, my Roamio HDMI died too. Back to component connection. The mini's RF remote works fine. Just another nail in my TiVo coffin.

Hmmmm.... I just bought this:
TiVo VOX Voice Remote Control w/Dongle -Used- Roamio Bolt Netflix RCN | eBay

My plan was to use it (the remote) with an A92 Mini in "RF mode"... with the dongle and TE3... will it work? No way I'm going back to the disaster that is TE4. That I can tell you.

Hmm... not sure I understand... the problem is I can't get my A92 to pair with the remote I just bought using the dongle that came with it. Or rather, another RF remote using the dongle (didn't see to pair with the VOX remote either). I'm wondering if it just won't work with TE3 or if it's something else causing the problem that can be addressed without "upgrading" to TE4.

Is there "RF" pairing and Bluetooth pairing (2 separate types)? Where Bluetooth only works with TE4?

Maybe the dongle I bought is Bluetooth only or doesn't work with TE3?

I am wasting too much time on this.
Struggling with this same issue. I have a Roamio and the old RF remote was heavily abused by my ex. Bought a Vox remote and bluetooth dongle. Can't get it to pair. Don't really care about the voice, but I would like it to pair so it is more responsive. Still on TE3. Is TE4 required to pair? Like I said, don't care about Voice search.
RF and Bluetooth is not the same interface. You need the right remote and VOX is not it.

I think I have determined this particular remote is defective. It won't go into any of the programming modes. Global reset doesn't work, can't put in TV, or audio device codes...never goes into pairing mode.

Unfortunately, I did the upgrade to TE4 for no good reason. It's actually not as bad as I thought it would be.

It is not compatible with Roamio.
