Hi all I got an older pro from 2014. Still works OK but it seems to be getting slower. Its directly wired thru cat5e to the internet and we have a 100mb service. Switching to amazon prime is the worse it will lock up and need to be restarted so maybe just the older GPU and so is it time to upgrade this machine.

A Roamio is a great DVR - I say they're the best series TiVo may ever produce - but those were barely good enough for streaming when they were new, and shouldn't be relied on for that now. The apps in there are not getting updated much, if ever, and if one is updated it will seem even slower on that old hardware.

Our Roamio Pro was much faster than our Premire XL, so was bearable for a while, but only once I switched us to real streaming devices did my wife start finding streaming fast and convenient enough for regular use. (Currently two Insignia Fire TV Edition sets and a Fire TV Stick 4K on another set, but there are many other options.)

A Bolt would be faster, and in fact it was the first one they marketed as a streamer, but I had several bad experiences with its design and quality. The Edge is reportedly faster still, but is too new to be sure of quality and I have read too many negatives about it so far. They are still not the best streaming platforms, and both are missing some streaming services. I suggest you get a real streaming device.

I use a basic Roamio with Prime a lot. No problems. True, not the quickest to start, but after that it's fine. I also have 100Mbps service. but it only needs under 10Mbps.

One Pass held some promise as it kept track of your streaming programs like your recordings, and you just had to click play and it would start the App and start playing the program saving some clicking around - but then fast little streaming sticks and smart TVs proliferated.

As a bonus ... whatever you do on a separate device isn't going to crash your DVR.

Also, the guide updates for streaming stopped being timely or accurate. It was great for a while but now IMO is useless.
