Hello!

Apparently my ethernet port is dead on my Roamio. If I try to switch from wifi to ethernet in the Network settings on the Roamio, the unit claims nothing is connected. I do see a green light flash on the Tivo connection port when I turn the Tivo on (plug it in). My router also never sees it. Everything else to router works fine.

I need the ethernet connection to establish a MOCA network so I can also use my Tivo Mini. I checked the ethernet cable and that is good and the router port is good. Problem is, doing a search I didn't find really any examples of the ethernet port failing on Tivos so I'm a little skeptical.

Did I forget anything? I did the "unplug everything and plug everything back in order" trick, no luck.

I'm thinking of trying a USB to Ethernet adapter for a fix. I'm assuming that will work?

Failure of Ethernet ports are not unknown. An active Ethernet port disables wireless. I don't know if a Roamio will work with any USB to Ethernet adapters. Perhaps someone else can help with that. I assume the Internet Diagnostics fail? I also assume you mean router when you say modem. I would try a different cable just to be sure. The blinking lights are a good sign.

You do not need ethernet cable if you just use MoCa. You need it when your Tivo is going to be the MoCa host, not client. For client, you just need a MoCa adapter at the router (or enabled on a capable router)

Have you tried a power-off reboot? Manually set a different IP address? i had wonky Ethernet behavior on a Roamio that resolved after manually changing the Ip and power-cycling.

FYI after going over every possibility with Tivo support, they are providing me with a 3TB Tivo Bolt in exchange for my faulty Roamio plus and $52.50, which I thought wasn't bad considering the Roamio has to be at least 5 years old. This is cheaper than the $80.00 MOCA bridge I was considering from Weaknees.com to remedy my Roamio ethernet MOCA issues. Thought I'd share this as an option for anyone else having this problem.

There is the issue of all my recorded content going with the old DVR. Is there an easy way to transfer recorded content between Tivo devices?

If both DVRs have active service, are on the same TiVo account, and on the same network, then TiVo Online can be used to transfer OnePasses and non-protected recordings between the DVRs.
