Added a Roamio to my TiVo family and I was trying to get remotes that I had from my Bolt to work on it. I did get a Bluetooth dongle from weaknees.com, but I cannot get any remote to work in RF mode. Did the factory reset. Call to Tivo was useless. They read from the same page I looked at to do a global reset. But I wanted to make sure that a Bolt VOX remote should work with my Roamio. Just seems I cannot get any RF connection. The OLD Roamio remotes that came with it are so old they don't have a "back" button.

Might be user error, but it my Bolt was a PITA to get 2 remote to run on it on RF mode.

Goal is to get 2 remotes that work in RF mode. VOX is optional.

I can confirm I have Vox remote working in RF mode with my Roamio using the dongle and TE3. Can also confirm it was not easy or fun to pair it and took I don't know how much time. The trick might have been to pull the plug on every TiVo device and pull the batteries out of all remotes in the house. Then wipe the remote clean of all codes and start fresh after a global reset. And I'm sure then it took some luck.

I'm sure you can pair it with the Tivo Remote menu without the dongle.

If you need to reset it, Tivo+power,:down::down:

You might be right... I found out later that the remotes on my Bolt needed to be added back. But added 2 RF's to my Bolt took all of 3 minutes. It seems the Roamio is very picky about RF remotes.

That's interesting. I bought a Bolt a couple of years ago and was unable to get the remote to pair in RF mode even with the dongle on TE3. Tried a lot and ended up returning it and sticking with the Roamio.

I did get a dongle and it still will NOT pair. Tried 2 VOX remotes that I validated both work on my Bolt, but will not on my Roamio. Just like the RF or bluetooth remotes better. So if I can't get them to work, will end up using an IR blaster to get better response from my IR remotes.

Tried to get weakness to help, but they just told me to call TiVo. So no support for products that they sell. Also could not find any documented help using the dongle and Bluetooth VOX remotes for TiVo. Lots of details on the IR/RF remotes.

Do you have an RF remote already 'paired' and in use for the Roamio? I've no idea but if the Roamio sees an RF battery condition reported in HELP > SYS INFO maybe it won't look for or 'pair' an additional. I actually only recently started using the Roamio remote. I had/have the very old GLO IR and for my use they did very well.

I have 2 RF remotes paired to the same Roamio.

Did you try the step of unplugging all other TiVos and pulling batteries out of all other remotes before pairing?

Does each display a 'different' battery state dependent upon which you have 'in hand'?
Yes, shows from the last remote used/pressed.

My Goal... To use 2 spare VOX remotes with my Roamio. Added a Bluetooth dongle.

My process...
  1. Unplugged my Bolt that is in another room. I did leave a mini up, but it was on the opposite side of my house. Don't think any remote could reach it.
  2. Installed Dongle
  3. Powered off, back on my Roamio
  4. Installed batteries in VOX remote
  5. Navigated to remote setting and try to pair it.
  6. followed the direction on the screen
  7. FAILED.. On 2 remotes (both will pair with my Bolt)
  8. Reset the remote to defaults
  9. Global reset on the Roamio
  10. Power off, back on
  11. Try to pair each VOX remote
  12. FAILS

My goal was to use 2 spare VOX remotes that I have. Much better response with the Bluetooth remotes than IR/RF. TiVo and weakness say that this should work. But no luck.

I did get a $10.00 IR blaster and it works fine. Seems the Bluetooth dongle was just a waste of time and money.

Appreciate the help and suggestions.. Please let me know if I missed anything.

I think I went though this process for at least an hour or more before it worked. I didn't keep rebooting the TiVo though, just kept resetting the remote.

Thanks... Just to share... Here is what TiVo support sent me.

Please follow the troubleshooting steps below:

1. Plug in the USB receiver/dongle on the USB port of your TiVo Roamio or the TiVo Mini.
2. Verify the Bluetooth receiver is placed towards the front of the TiVo device.
3. Restart the TiVo device after connecting the Bluetooth receiver/dongle.
4. Proceed to the Pairing your TiVo VOX Remote section. Go to MENU > SETTINGS > REMOTE, CABLECARD & DEVICES > REMOTE CONTROL SETUP > Pair your remote with your TiVo box > Follow the onscreen instructions.
5. REMOTE CONTROL SETUP screen with Pair your remote with your TiVo box selected.

Probably similar to what I did but I think at some point from hitting buttons it moves you out of the pairing screen and back to TiVo Central. I can't be sure but I may have gotten it to pair without being on the pairing screen as I know I became frustrated with it.
