I have a Bolt with a motherboard Channel turner issue. Let's assume I acquire a new Bolt with a small hard drive ... say the 500gb one. My current Bolt has a 2tb drive I installed about 18 mos. ago.

Can I just swap the drives. Put the 2TB from the Bolt to be replaced into the newly acquired one?
And the 500gb one in the broken machine. I'd do this if I decide to have the bad one fixed.

Seems like it should work, but all my searching for "swapping drives" or "reusing drives" have yielded nothing.

If there are any significant considerations in doing this process and you could share that info with me, I would be very appreciative.

Bad tuner issue cannot be fixed, only replaced.

You can put the 2TB in the newer Bolt, but shows on it will not work and you must run "Clear & Delete Everything", otherwise it will not record also.

Don't need the existing shows, downloaded them all to my PC with kmttg.

Thanks for mentioning the "Clear & Delete Everything". That will save me a bunch of time.

I think the Bolt will automatically format a drive, if it's not the same drive that it booted up with previously, even if that drive was used in another Bolt.

It will format a blank drive, but if the drive was in another Tivo, Bolt or otherwise, the drive needs to be married, hence the Clear & Delete Everything.

I think the Bolt behaves differently than previous Tivos. It will format any drive that it thinks is different from the previous drive that it booted up with, even if the drive was running in another bolt.
