Replacing HDD???
My Tivo Premiere HDD died and I found working HDD on Craiglist, so my question is. If i take dead HDD from my Tivo and replace it with the working one, will it work immediately or I will need to do some additional steps in order to get it to work?

If this TiVo you just bought has been in service, then it should work after the TiVo gets done deleting all of the recordings. A better option would be to power up the working Premiere, do a "Clear & Delete Everything" before you remove it.
If it hasn't been in service, then it should work fine and go through an initial setup.
In either case, most people around here, myself included, would recommend that you acquire a new, larger drive and use the working drive to image it. Then, if you don't want two TiVos, you can try to sell it.
Whatever you do, if you have a CableCARD installed and your cable system requires that CableCARDs be paired, you will have to get it paired to the TiVo again.

As others have suggested, I would recommend upgrading the hard drive while you can. Upgrading the Premiere is fairly straightforward with the JMFS software.
It will only cost you the price of a 2TB hard drive.

If his first TiVo has lifetime that would be the only reason I could see that keeping the same box (motherboard) would matter. Any other type of subscription can easily be transferred to a different TSN on the TiVo web site, can't it? Or is this governed by some restriction with the $20/mo. If you are not comfortable creating your own larger HDD as described above you can buy one from Weaknees already formatted. There is a link at the top of the page on the right hand side. Or you could buy one from DVR_DUDE on eBay and install it yourself. You might have to call your cable company to have the cable card remarried to the new hard drive but thats as hard as a phone call and if you have FiOS you may not even need to do that.
To be clear:

AFTER you do that, you will have to call the cable company and have the re-pair the CableCARD. What he might consider doing is to power up the "new" TiVo, clear and delete everything, power it back down, pull the drive and use it to create an expanded drive to install in the "old" TiVo. Then take the drive from the "new" TiVo and store it away as a backup so he he won't have to go through this exercise again. He could even, at some point, create another drive to put in the "new" TiVo and either sell it or put it into service.
Ok, thanks to everyone for the comments. Since HDD in my Premiere died and after reading all your comments I got replacement 320 GB HDD on eBay for $38 (delivered).
Installing HDD was not a problem, for some reason fan was making so much noise first two-three minutes that i was thinking i did not do something right and that I will have to open it but it simply stop.
It took a long time to start, and after that to get Cox Tuning Adapter to work, then it did not record or work properly till I did Delete Everything step.
Now it works great, only problem that I have is that my iPhone/iPad app will not recognize Tivo Premiere, it thinks its Tivo3/HD Tivo. Software version i have on the system is 14.5 and when i manually try to force new software download it does not update it to 14.8. Will my Tivo automatically download new software version (I was told that may be the reason for not recognizing iPhone APP).
