If the drive is still spinning up and recognized by your PC's BIOS when you boot up then there may be hope. Check out a program, called SpinRite. It will recover data from a drive with bad sectors and can usually repair most surface defects and bring the drive back to life. The program is a bit pricey (about $89 last time I checked) so you may want to consider just getting an Instantcake image and a new drive, assuming you don't have a backup image of the original drive.
