Hey All,
I'm about to get a replacement S3 from Tivo. Will I need to have the cable company come back to install the cablecards that I removed from the prior S3? Or can I just pop in the old cards and they'll work? I'd hate to set up a service appointment just for this...the moron who installed them the first time took forever and had no idea what he was doing.
Thanks!

You need to get the cards re-paired, but you should be able to do this over the phone (which is exactly what the tech is going to do).

When you move the cards into a new device (or even a different slot), there is a new HOST ID and DATA value for each card. Your cable company will have to update the current values they have in their system with these new values and validate them.

If you can get someone on the phone that understands this, it takes about 30 seconds.

(One other thing - you MAY find that the cards will seem to work just fine in the new S3 as is. If so, that means that the cable company either doesn't use copy protection or never validated your cards correctly in the first place ...)

Same HOST ID, new DATA value.
Sorry, I didn't write that well:

Same HOST ID if a card is in the same slot.

Different HOST ID if in a different slot or different Tivo.

New data value in either case.

It's very late. Probably it's me, rather than that doesn't seem right.

FWIW, My TiVo S3 replacement arrived and it appears that Cox in SB does require a re-pairing of the CC's since they would not pickup any digital channels until I gave the HostId to the support rep. Unbelievably, they were actually able to configure things over the phone-- I was pretty shocked considering this wasn't an option when I first bought the unit.
