Replacement Fan?

There's another thread around here somewhere where replacement fans were discussed recently and various models recommended or not.

(it's usually best to search this site first for the info you need, and only then post a new thread if necessary, but don't hesitate to do so if search doesn't get you what you need)

Here's something to try.

Take the fan out, taking note of which way it's turned. The side that faces the outside of the TiVo, the side that air flows out of, will have a round sticker. Lift one side of that, and if necessary remove a rubber plug, so that you can see the "axle" of the blade assembly sticking up through the bearing.

If there's a bunch of crud in there, clean it out first, maybe using some denatured alcohol, toothpicks, paper toweling, cotton swabs, et cetera.

Put a couple of drops of light oil, like sewing machine oil, 3-in-1, fishing reel oil, slot car oil, et cetera

Marvell Mystery Oil might be a touch too thick.

Then pack some light grease into the cavity, fishing reel grease, ignition lube, something like that.

Then a little more oil, another dab of grease, and hold your thumb over the hole to force the mixture in between the axle and the bearing while turning the blades, then re-insert rubber plug, wipe off any leakage and stick the sticker back down and re-install the fan and see if you still think you need a new one.
