I've had this problem with my old Samsung tube TV and my S2. For some reason, the Samsung codes in the TiVo remote for volume don't work when you hold the volume buttons down. You have to repeatedly press them: one press for one notch in volume.

Really annoying.

However, the S3 glo-remote is a learning remote, so you might be able to learn the volume code from your TV's original remote.

Whoops ... I assumed you had an S3 (since you had an HDTV). The glo-remote is the nice backlit remote that comes with the S3.

If you've got a normal standalone S2 box with the basic peanut remote, it's not programmable so you're out of luck.

Luckily for me, the Samsung TV I have is in the bedroom, so we just keep the original remote in the bedside table to control the volume because using the peanut takes forever.
