I have an OTA Roamio and 3 mini's connected to it all via Ethernet. At different times of the day, different mini's are in use, but generally no more than two at any time . However I often get message that it can't change channel as all tuners are in use. I'd understand if I'm recording multiple things, but mostly not the case.

I've read some posts about this that I believe the issue is I'm not releasing the tuners to "TIVO central" when I turn off the TV connected to a mini. I've read instructions on how to release a tuner, but the issue is the instructions I've found online don't seem to line up with the actual menu choices available to me, maybe was written for a different model TIVO or OS??

Can someone explain exactly the steps required with a Roamio and mini. And also is there a way (menu choice) to verify the tuner then was actually released.

Thanks!

First, you can see if a tuner is "owned" by hitting Right on the host when in full screen video. Sometimes it just shows the TSN in the box.

When you hit the TiVo button on the Mini it is supposed to take you to the Home menu and release the tuner. It can be activated by an EAS test. I put my Mini boxes into Standby when I am finished but I only use them once a day. Also, the tuner ownership will automatically be released after four hours with no remote activity.

That's how it's supposed to work.

Can you be more explicit by what exactly is "full screen mode"? I don't see any screens on my host Roamio that shows a list of the minis and their status. Which menu or sub-menu are you referring to exactly that displays a list of the boxes? I assume I'm doing this on the Roamio?

So on the mini's if I pres the TIVO button then shut down the TV with that screen showing, the tuner should be released? Certainly can do the standby button, but harder to remember

Full screen mode is what your TV would display without a TiVo. As in no menus. I assume you are using TE4, when the display has a black, not blue background, and the remote's TiVo button takes you to "Home", not "TiVo Central". If you have TE3, just hit Right, then Down to view the tuners.

I guess you are using CEC/HDMI Control, which is TE4. I never use that.

I manually release my mini's tuner when I'm done using it. Press the Tivo button, then press the slow motion button that is directly below the yellow pause. This will immediately release the tuner.

Yes do have a black background when I hit the TIVO button and at the top left is the TIVO logo and directly to the right it states "Home" In the top left corner is the live TV preview window.

So viewing the "Home" menu on my Roamio, but still don't see any menu that lists the tuners connected to it. I assumed it would have been either under Settings or Help, but don't see anything in either of those sub-menus

OK I pressed the TIVO button, it went to the "Home" menu. In the top left corner the live TV preview window is showing. I then pressed the slow motion button and the preview window went dark so I'd assume that released it? So that is good.

Still trying to find where on my host Roamio I can find a list of all the mini tuners and their status. I assumed it would have been either under Settings or Help, but don't see anything in either of those sub-menus about tuners?

Let's start again. With TE4, while watching TV, hit Right. The tuners are shown on the right side of the screen. Scroll up or down if you have more than four. The host tuner is the one you are viewing full screen. If one is blank or just has numbers starting with A95, that's a Mini VOX.

OK got it now, didn't know that right arrow menu existed, that was the part that was confusing me. I do see the other tuners now when I hit the right button, but don't see any names for them, just lists what appears to be the last channel they were each tuned to. So I guess it's showing the tuners but no names.

When I click the up or down button I can then go to the next tuner, however it appears there's no type of sub menu I can then click on to either get info on that tuner or I don't see a way that I can release the tuner from my host Roamio, it appears that can only be done from each individual mini.

Everything you posted is true. That's the new TiVo Experience. :(

To be fair, you can't kill off a Mini from the host on the old experience either.
