Tonight, I selected channel 00 on my Tivo and changed tuners. In just a few seconds, I got a message that basically said no video was detected, checking line in. Being really curious, I plugged the DVD player into line in. BINGO! Shrek on Tivo. Having never had any success in getting Line IN to function, I was very surprised.

What next? Record of course. Each time I tired I got the message that "Already recording on tuner. Continue or Stop?" I switched tuners, etc and no change.

Anyway, can I get my S2Dt to record from Line In? I'd LOVE to be able to record from devices other than the cable line.

Yes. I do it all the time with amazon unbox rentals.

First you have to connect the device to the composite input and have a signal so that the tuner can display something. Then you have to setup a manual recording for channel "showcases" (that channel should be set by default. don't scroll past it or you have to back up and start over) set you start and stop times and be ready to play whatever you want to record when the recording starts.

I just checked my tivos to see if any of this is different now with v9.1 and it is different. rather than channel '00' being shown as 'showcases' it is shown as '0'

It gets better. if you have only one Tivo and you'd like to be able to transfer an unbox recording for example, to your pc so that you can view it in another room ;) , you can connect the output to the input and do the same thing. But when you tune to channel 00 you need to back out of it quickly because the video starts this looping thing that can quickly get out of hand. The drawback with this is that once you start playing/recording you have to leave the tivo alone until the recording is finished. The copy is now as transferable as any regular recording.

edit:
Since I got the 9.1 update, I can only record on channel 00 on my 240xxx. My other newer Tivos (540xxx 649xxx) won't do it.
