I am sorry if this has been discussed before ;) , but I am a newbie to this forum. :) We have a R-10 and a DVD-Recorder. We have one program set to record every day (to date we have about 120 episodes) and unfortunately do not have time to record to the DVD-R everyday. I see there is a usb port behind the unit. What is this for? Can I save the saved programs to a hard drive on a computer? Basically, besides re-watching all the shows to delete the commercials, do I have any other choices?

Also, is there a way to record the shows without the commercials?

Thanks for all the help.

The USB port is not enabled. And hacks for the R10 are very difficult. The only way to transfer from the R10 to the DVD recorder is via the analog outputs on the R10. And, you have to do them one at a time. To eliminate the commercials you will either have to FF through them while recording or just record the whole thing and then rip to the PC, edit out the commercials and reburn.

DTV added the usb port so that when prospective buyers saw it they would think "WOW! Network capability". Only problem is it's virtually useless.
I suppose you can always use it to tether a cat or a small dog.
Now THAT"S an idea! A cat collar with a usb plug on the end!
