On standard TiVo's (not mini's), when recording a playing show, it will typically record up to 30 minutes prior to the moment that the end-user hits the 'record' button.

On the Mini, it only starts recording from the present moment, which often means the end-user misses what they were trying to record.

Is there a setting to fix this, so that the Mini will start recording from the buffer of what's already been playing?

Thanks in advance!

Yes and No. Mostly No. When you enable the Mini (TV Button) you are assigned a tuner and its buffer. If that is what you want to record you also get the buffer. If you change channels on the Mini, you start with a new buffer since you can't change tuners once assigned.

If the previous show has ended, you 'typically' can't record it.

You can set a manual recording for the hour prior and capture most of the prior show, but only up 'til about 5 minutes after the following show.

I'm not sure if a Mini does that too, as I don't use any for my day-to-day devices.

Thanks for the response, but no, even when sitting on the same channel for many minutes on the same show, it will only record from the present moment. Both my mini's have been like this for a long time. It would be nice if it were just like the regular Tivo and record whatever it already has in its buffer.

So what I do to get around this, for example, is I'm watching a movie on my Mini and 15 minutes in I want to start recording it. So I will change the channel to another channel I am **100% certain** is on another tuner on my host Roamio. Then I pull up the guide and record it and it will record the buffer also. The key is you cannot change the channel to a channel that is not currently being tuned or you will dump the buffer. During my work day I keep my Roamio on all the channels I might want to pull up during a break in the day and then just pull them up on my mini and they all have a buffer.

This is simple,
Press the TiVo button on the Mini to release the tuner.
Press the Guide button, go to the channel you want to record and press record.
Make sure the program is not still playing in the video window when you press the Guide button.
