Record in HD when possible?

I thought I read somewhere that you can set up the TiVo HD to record shows in HD when possible. I can't figure out how to set this up.

Was I just dreaming? Searching this forum didn't turn up anything.

Create a season pass for your favorite shows using the HD version of the channel. To do that, just find the show on the HD channel or do a Search by Title, click the show on the HD channel, and select 'Create Season Pass.' If you do that, the show will always record in HD when available.

If you want to auto-record content by keyword, genre, actor, etc, but want the TivoHD to only record HD programs, then create a wishlist and select HD as your first category. The HD wishlist category means "HD only." If you want to auto-record all content by keyword / genre, but still want to record SD if no HD version is available, then create the above wishlist with the HD category, and then create the same wishlist without the HD category and place it at a lower priority under Season Passes.
I believe it was the 8.3 software update on the S3 Tivos that received an HD category list enhancement. Since the THD units are still on 8.1 software they don't yet have that category. Even with the HD category however things are still not quite right as any non-HD programs are filtered out, so you need 2 different wishlists now - one for SD and the other for HD. The ideal case would have been that HD category gives preference to HD channels but still includes SD matches as lower priority.

The Tivo Series3 did not have the HD wishlist category with 8.1.1. The TivoHD does have the wishlist category with 8.1.7.
