For the record, the Devil's stance on Sam taking a vacation is sort of like some of the comments from some of the people here :D (Have to love employers that don't like making things easy on their employees)

I really like that they don't make the devil (and Wise doesn't play him as) this kind of preternaturally good-natured, jovial guy. He's that way a lot, but it's good that they skew him a little more serious and sinister sometimes.

Still like the series -- a lot, actually -- and don't mind that it's an hour, but the stretch marks continue to show. Some obvious filler tonight, such as Sam's parents trying to find the contract. And one thing that is definitely bugging me: Sam hasn't told Andi that he is working for the devil simply because the plot requires him not to, just to keep them apart. Never mind that he told Sock and the other guy straight out, and they believed him straight out. There's no reason the character would be behave one way with them and another way with her, especially when the latter causes him so much frustration.

This was not a good episode. I was bored and/or annoyed through most of it.

Boring: the soul story

Annoying: the Andi stuff. He should tell her; she'd be a great practical addition to the team.

I agree -- he really needs to tell Andi. Especially now that he's pretty much lost her anyway. What has he got to lose? She definitely would be the brains of that outfit. :D
Yeah, that's one thing that annoys me about fiction. People in TV shows, movies, comics, books often don't tell other people about their Special Abilities not because people wouldn't do that, but because people in TV shows, movies, comics, books don't tell other people about their Special Abilities.

I guess it's a way to keep up some drama ("Oooh! Will they find out?!?"), but I wish somebody would break the mold and explore the consequences (good AND bad) of what would happen if people knew, or even if everybody knew.

This show is getting worse each week. I watched reaper and last week's smallville on the same night... what a stupid thing to do! Fortunately a fun little episode of californication from monday night saved the evening.

I'm two weeks behind on Californication, and the episode prior to that I couldn't even finish and deleted 15 minutes into it. I don't dislike the show, I'm just finding no point to it and don't care about anyone on it. As bad as Smallville is, at least its got a few characters I generally root for. And while sometimes the writing on Reaper is weaker than it could be and I believe his sidekick is horribly miscast and poorly written, I see more potential there with the concept than I've ever considered in Californication; and at least there doesn't seem to be any character on Reaper as bad as Lana. Even the escaped souls seem more purposeful and interesting than most of the freaks of the week on Smallville.

The only thing Californication has over Reaper or Smallville is nudity; and frankly that gets old with no substance behind it.

I agree about reaper's potential. That's why I'm not deleting the SP. Every episode that goes by, I feel more and more that they are shackling a potentially great show with stupid plots and freak of the weekisms.

Sorry to hear you are not enjoying californication. I don't even find the nudity in it all that great. I like the acting and sarcasm. It's like sex and the city for men, set in LA.

I'm really seeing a "Gilligan's Island" vibe to this Andi situation. Just as the castaways could never *quite* manage to get off the island, Sam will never *quite* manage to get the girl. Something or other will always come up to prevent it.

Telling her the truth would change this dynamic, so they won't do it. So far they have no interest in actually progressing the story or the characters; they'd rather just play the same shtick over and over again...
