Re: Macro-blocking patch that "fixes" the problem... didn't work for me on eitherCARD

Anyone know what the status is at TiVo for fixing the CableCARD macro-blocking on both ports? I'm still having tremendous issues on my TivoHD with Scientific Atlanta cablecards on Comcast in southwestern Connecticut. Before the cablecards were installed, I had no issues at all... once they were installed, there has been huge macro-blocking very often (once every minute or more at times on some channels such as my locals and especially HD premiums like TNT-HD/etc.).

I really hope this recent patch isn't the end of the fixes, because for me, it did not do anything (I am on the newest version as of this posting according to the system information screen). Anyone spoken with TiVo today and know what's going on? I'm going to call them in the afternoon, but this is infuriating... I have two Tivo HD's and may have to return them if this can't be fixed in a timely manner.

I assume you've tried to bypass any splitters to see if a signal issue might be the problem?

It sounds more and more like the driver (module) supporting OpenCable hardware on the TivoHD has some serious bugs that need to be worked out, especially when it comes to Scientific Atlanta cards.

I'm still finding it difficult to believe that something that major wasn't caught by testers. Since many like yourself with SA cards experienced this problem from day one, and presumably testers did as well, why didn't Tivo fix it back in May? That's a 'showstopper' -- it should have been atop their list of things to fix.

If the individual responsible for the TivoHD beta program didn't ensure that there were an array of testers using Scientific Atlanta Cablecards...they should be out of a job. I notice the Tivo beta application doesn't ask the individual to specify whether their system uses Motorola or Scientific Atlanta hardware...that seems like a pretty significant oversight to me.

Yes, I have tried bypassing the accessible splitters with no alleviation of this issue :(.
The update from August 1st is NOT the end of the matter. Even the official statement TiVo issued, which I've posted here several times, indicated they were still working on additional updates to fix the remaining issues. The update from the 1st fixed *some* of the issues, but obviously not all of them.

I still have macroblocking on my box too - Charter Digital with SciAtl S-Cards. Both cards, not just slot 2.

It is the TiVo HD, no question about it and TiVo knows it.
I saw the statement previously but it seemed to refer to only those with 2nd-card-slot issues, not those with both cards giving unignorable pixelization :(.
megazone:

I have similar issues, and opened a case with TiVo. The CSR wants me to return the unit, but I don't want to go through the hassle if this isn't a hardware problem with my box. God forbid I have to have Charter out here AGAIN to get the cards paired.

Is there a particular person, case number, etc. I can reference for this issue?

Here's my symptoms:

- I have the Aug. 1 update
- Still see pixelization on all channels on both cards
- Have seen it on a TiVO menu at least once
- It *is* recorded, and reproduces on screen, in both the live buffer and recorded shows
- Both CCs have CP Auth Received
- Signal strength is 100 on both cards
- Both are SA cards from Charter in Groton, MA

Help!

Makes you wonder if there was any beta at all for the Tivo HD or if the beta was not comprehensive enough to catch this issue? Probably to beta test the box you would have to be willing to pay for cablecards (and their installation) on your own dime which maybe explains the lack of sufficient number of beta testers (assuming there were any at all) for this to come up. I certainly would not have been willing to beta test this box under those circumstances. If this was before the S3s were available I would have jumped on such an invitation, but seeing as how I already own two S3s the motivation is much less.
It would seem to be overall this box was rather rushed to market and mostly to date has accomplished killing off sales of additional S3 units while simultaneously pissing off a lot of buyers not expecting to be beta testers.

I have to agree with you...I'm a first time TiVo customer (I have two TWC SA8300HDs with Passport software), and my new TiVo HD has really disappointed me. The menu lag, occasional freezing, re-boots that never complete, dropping its wired network connection randomly and lousy cable card support (pixelation) have me returning the box and canceling my 3 year pre-paid subscription.

Frankly, the SA8300HD costs me less per month, has VoD & Digital Simulcast (TWC Cable Cards don't support this) and actually works better than the current state of the TiVo HD. I'm still interested in owning a TiVo, but I think I'll have to wait to Rev 2.0 of the HD box.
I am pretty disappointed in my tivoHD at this point. The s3 is just working better at this point. I am leaning towards return the tivoHD and using the SA 8300 DVR until I can get a better price on another S3.
For what it's worth, this isn't limited to SA cards. I have two Moto cards, and I have the exact same symptoms.

Bad pixelation on both cards, on most channels. Worst on locals and HD channels (which is most of what I watch). But present everywhere I've tested, and on both cards.

This is a general problem with the TivoHD.

(I've exchanged mine, I've used CC's from a working S3 in my house, and I've used the same cables from a working S3. Only other variable is the Tivo OS, or a systemic hardware problem with the TivoHD.)
