If you can mount the drive with the mfstools CD, IIRC there is a file in the /etc directort called "build info" or the like. In it is the software version, including the model prefix.
Just what I needed to know - Thank you so much classicsat - take care

You might need the MFS Live cd v1.3b, and not v1.4, in order to mount Tivo drive partitions. Don't know why, but I've run into that.
I found the build-version file under /etc, but I can not find the model info. It sez
b-7-3-3-mr @226254 2006.02.21.2133 release-mips [SET_7_2_2_TAKARA] .... followed by more headings, and ending in
2006.02.21.2133 7.2.2-tak.01-2

It the information here and I can not recognize it?

Looking here

I'm guessing the drive came out of a Series 2, and was removed from service in 2006, somewhere after February and before July.

That

@226254

might indicate an S2 TCD540XXX, but that's just a wild conjecture on my part.

Thanks Sir - I will copy the image and try it out on a 540
