I have a Roamio Plus sitting in my closet which we used for a very long time before moving to SC..It also worked in SC with the cable card but no premiums. We went with the Xfinity X-1box(s). The price was yet again rasied and want to go back to the TIVO..My question is does the Roamio have a BUILT IN HBO Max app..?? I remember it having HBO Go, but would rather have the HBO MAX...or just go ahead and get the newer Edge...

There is no HBOMax app on any of the TiVo DVR's. Your best bet is a separate streaming box.

The streaming apps on any TiVo are a marginally useful utility.

You will always be MUCH better served with a stand-alone dedicated media streamer. Very good ones can be found for $50 or less (i.e., Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, Chromecast with Google TV, et al); and when it comes time to upgrade to something newer your investment will have been minimal.

not true. the primary apps that they do have (Netflix, Vudu, Amazon, YouTube) perform just as well on the Edge and Mini Vox as on any current model streaming stick.

I can not verify your statement myself since I do not own an Edge or Mini Vox; however, there are many aspects that make a stand-alone streamer a better choice. Not least among them are app support over the years and (as I had mentioned) the relative ease of swapping out for a newer, more up-to-date model.

And I would have to question whether those TiVo-supported apps all provide the best A/V features (e.g., Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos) where available via other streaming devices. It's hard enough (nigh unto impossible) to find a single dedicated streamer that can do it all, let alone a DVR from a corporation that is looking to exit the retail hardware market.

Such a robust reply for someone who has no experience with an Edge or Mini Vox. Your comments seem to be responding to a statement that I hadn't made.

No, my comments respond directly to your statement that I quoted:

"Perform just as well" implies that they provide the same features and the same caliber of U/X as any dedicated streaming device. Is that truly your opinion?

In general I agree with @chiguy50 and I have first hand usage, I find the Tivo implementation of 3rd party streaming apps mediocre at best, while it may work at the moment, they are rarely updated and frequently abandoned, HBO is a good example of that.

I have never come across a situation where a Tivo streaming app is easier to use or more friendly than the apps on a dedicated streaming device such as a Roku or Apple TV and unless someone only uses apps that are provided on a Tivo a dedicated streamer will offer a better experience with more variety of applications IMNSHO.
