I have a the non HD dual tuner Tivo, and now got Comcast HD and their DVR is crap so I want to get the HD TIvo and I have a couple of questions.

1. I'm currently paying 16.95 for my 3 year plan for the old Tivo (isn't that too much, shouldn't it be 12.95? I started it middle of last year.)

2. Do I have to buy the Tivo from Tivo to get the 6.95 for 3 years or can I just buy it from anywhere?

3. Can I just upgrade my current 3 years? How exactly will that work? Will the 16.95 go down to 6.95 ... or will the 3 years be added on to my current remaning years?

4. Is there anything I can do with my non HD Tivo?... return it somehwere for some money or its pretty much a door stop?

I guess thats about it, I'm just not clear on these matters and want to make sure I have these questions answered before I get this thing.

Thanks!

1. $16.95 is $4 too much for the 3 year plan. If you activated it online, I'd say you made the mistake of signing up for only one year. If you did it via phone, I'd say they made the mistake. I'd call Tivo and see what can be done about it.

2 & 3. You are currently committed to at least one year of service. If you buy from tivo you'll have to commit to a second term of service, so you'd be paying for two subscriptions. You can by the TivoHD from anywhere other than tivo.com and simply transfer the service from the DT to the HD.

4. sell it

edit
according to you post on 9/21 you were on a one year commitment that ended in june. Considering this. Buying from Tivo.com will not cost you any more money than buying from anyplace else.

I don't recall specifically but when I go to my account on tivo website it says 16.95 3 years... so thats why I assume I did the 3 year one.

How do I transfer the service, and will I be able to get the 6.95 price if I transfer?

I'll try to find a phone # to call them.

Thanks!

You need to check with Tivo to get the specifics on your current service.

If you buy a Tivo HD and don't want to keep the old Tivo active, you can simply transfer the service contact to the new box. A used DT is probably worth somewhere from $40 - $100.

If you do want to keep the DT active, then you will automatically get the $6.95 rate on the Tivo HD box if you activate it while signed in to Manage My Account and commit to three years.

It appears you have a bundle TiVo. Your rate is paying for the TiVo hardware and the service (as opposed to service only).

You can buy a second TiVo (retail recommended), and subscribe it for $6 of the monthly service only rate, and get a rebate (if applicable for the DVR you purchase), with your current DVR qualifying the second for the MSD.

You might be able to buy another DVR retail (full price, no rebate though) and move service from your current one to it.

I had a single tuner S2 and purchased a DT S2 from ebay. I then went here to transfer the service from the STS2 to the DTS2:

https://www3.tivo.com/tivo-mma/dvrchange.do

If you are not yet signed in, it will ask you to sign in. Once you are, your screen will look like this:

It's easy. You just put in the TSN of your new box and you are done!

I honestly don't remember if I got the Tivo from Tivo or from Best Buy... I assume it was from Tivo since this is what it says as my first transaction on their website:

Billed Jun 2, 2006 HW Upgrade 80-hr TiVo Series2 DT DVR $30.00
Settled Jun 8, 2006 Charged to: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX $46.95

So is that why I'm getting charged 16.95?

So knowing all this with my current situation can I convert whatever I have now to a 6.95 plan? I really want to do that if its possible...

That part is easy enough, but will I still be paying 16.95 per month?! Cause that would suck....

The only way to get the $6.95/mo rate is to have another Tivo that has either a lifetime sub. or a regular full subscription rate. We know you have a dual tuner. Do you have another tivo?
No I just have the Dual Tuner that I guess I got from the Tivo website which is why I'm paying 16.95... does that qualify as the "regular full subscription rate"?

Yes, but only if you are using and paying for both Tivos (the DT and the HD that you want). That's 16.95 for the DT and then 6.95 for the HD (If you commit to 3 years) for a total of $23.90/mo. Do you plan on using two Tivos? If not, there's no way that you'd get the MSD rate of $6.95

So then you were only on a one year plan which is $16.95 and that ended in june. You can cancel that account anytime you want. Your obligation is over and you are now on a monthly subscription.

We can't tell you what you'll be paying until you tell us exactly what you plan on doing.

1 or 2 tivos?
cancel the DT, leave the DT on monthly or commit to another 2 or 3 years for a cheaper monthly rate? or prepay?

the HD Tivo
1 year monthly commitment?
2 year monthly commitment?
3 year monthly commitment?
1 year prepay
2 year prepay
3 year prepay

It's a good thing tivo changed their rates to make it easier for new subscribers to understand. Trying to figure out nine different rates is so much easier than (not then) when they only had two.

Ok, here's what I got:

My online account thing says this:

The TiVo Package, 3 Year, Monthly

and my first two entries that I see on the payment history say this:

Billed Jun 2, 2006 HW Upgrade 80-hr TiVo Series2 DT DVR $30.00
Settled Jun 8, 2006 Charged to: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX $46.95

All I want is to buy a HD Tivo and get a 3 year plan for it (because I assume it will be the cheapest version) I will not use the other Tivo anymore, the only one I will be using is the HD Tivo, so I will have to cancel that account, but if its a 3 year deal wont I get screwed with some fee?

Now I went to Tivos site and I don't see the 6.95 thing anymore :( I'm just confused

for the third time

One Tivo will never* get the MSD (multi-service discount) rate. That's for having Multiple Tivos in service.
The best you can do is prepay for 3 years which is equivilent to $8.31/mo or second best is to sign up for three years of monthly service at $12.95/mo.

If the information you posted about the purchase and subscription of the S2 is correct, but the online information says that you are on a 3 year plan, you need to call Tivo to get it straightened out because you shouldn't have any commitment left.

* never = except for in the case of a retention deal for people that threaten to cancel service completely.
