I have a TiVo HD on order and I just learned that they support Multi stream cable cards. So you only need to have one Mcard installed to record two HD channels at one time? If you have one Mcard installed, is there any benefit to installing the other one at all?

Not only is there no benefit to installing a card in the second slot if you have an MCard, the Tivo will tell you to remove the second card. :)

The only benefit to having the second card would be if you don't think you pay the cable company enough every month and want to rent another piece of equipment. :D

I picked up an M Card from the Comcast store in Redmond, WA a few weeks ago for my HD -- not sure its setup right though - cant seem to get the 2nd tuner to pick up any channels.

If I use the CC Diagnostic screen, I can see all channels, but pressing live-tv twice results in a black screen or intermitent display on the 2nd tuner. Not sure if its a CC issue or a Tivo HD issue... guess I should start with Tivo support...

Is the card validated? (e.g. does it show a "V" in front of the validation value?)

Check the Motorola CableCARD Host Validation value on the Conditional Access screen under the CableCARD 1 menu.

The field is "Val ?" If the card is validated, the field will start with a "V" (e.g. V 0x00). If not, there will be no "V" (e.g. 0x00)
