Question about slow HD interface

I have read on here that the primier is slow becasue of a issue that forced them to disable one of the CPU's cores. I also recall discussion that this would be fixed at some time in the future. Still waiting on that....

Anyway, does anyone know the technical reason that the HD interface is so slow even with a single core ? I mean, even with the video window closed, there is a considerable delay when simply going from show to show in my whats whats playing list. I can understand that things may be sluggish due to a single core, but I would think simply navigating within the now playing list shouldnt be so slow.

Does anyong know why this is so slow even with a single core ? I wouldnt think that navigating the now playing list would be much different in HD or SD mode.

It'll probably be 'less slow' if both cores were enabled. Nobody knows exactly how much less slow. Might be a lot less slow. Might be negligible to us humans.

Speculation is that it's because it uses Flash, or because it's looking up content in real time, or a combination of both.

It's not due to a single core. A properly designed interface could run just fine on a single core. Even if the designers originally intended it to work with two cores, and using a single core was an unforeseen fault, there has been a frickin' year of time to correct that. There's no reason why the entire HDUI couldn't be reimplemented in a year if it was a priority.

In short, the 'technical reason' why it is slow is because management doesn't care how fast it is.
Yes, it is quite frustrating.

I dont think it is looking up anything in real time (at least when viewing the now playing list), becasue viewing the now playing list does work when my internet connection is down, so all the information is on the hard drive, its jsut really slow either accesing it or displaying it. Either way its ridiculous.
From my observations of the interface, I don't believe the flash they used is capable of anything like scrolling through a list. You delete an item in a list, it takes many seconds to compose a brand new list from scratch and redraw the entire screen, etc.

If this is in fact the case, then it would take a complete rewrite of the flash code. I have coded on flash in the past and this is such a low level function to code that its clear they do not know what they are doing. I think my first flash based website worked that way. Not the ones after though..

Many seconds? I don't see that issue when I delete items. Even on the box I have with a 2TB drive when it's full.
