pyTivo not finding new Tivo unit

Hello,

We just added a second Bolt. PyTivo is finding our old unit (192.168.0.228), but not the new unit (192.168.0.252).

I tried restarting PyTivo, but it still only shows the 228 one both in the tabs and in the settings.

How do I get PyTivo to see the new Bolt?

It needs to call in a few times before it's attached to your encryption key. Can you see the new TiVo from the old TiVo? If not force a couple more calls on the new TiVo until that links up, then PyTivo should find it

Hello and thank you for your reply.

The Media Access Key are the same on both boxes.

The 14TB Bolt (228) can see in the device list the 1TB unit (252). I can see his recordings and deleted recordings, etc.

PyTivo still only shows the 14TB Bolt (228).

Advise, please and thank you.

Could be a network thing. Is the new one connected differently? Like is it wifi instead of ethernet or moca?

Another possibility is the options. Go to the first tab of the options page and look at the list of TiVos. Is it there and just not checked?

Both units connect via Ethernet (cat 7 cable).

Options page? I see settings and a tab called TiVoToGo.

Questions: Is there a way to force it to see the second unit given I know the IP address?

Is there a method to find out why it isn't showing/seeing the new Bolt?

Yeah the TiVoToGo tab, at the bottom, there is a list of TiVos. This allows you to check/uncheck the ones you actually want to see in the main UI. Maybe it got unchecked somehow?

If not...

Are both units on the same subnet? (if you don't know what that means then they probably are)

Unfortunately there is no way to manually enter an IP. You can try turning off zeroconf and see if that helps. Sometimes the old protocol works better on certain networks.

I didn't actually write the pyTivo part of this, I just packaged it up and added the UI. So some of this stuff is outside my scope.

Actually those are NOT on the same subnet!

The first 3 numbers all have to match for TiVo discovery to work. So they'd both need to be on 192.168.0.XXX. And the computer needs to be on that same subnet too.

Using a subnet mask to include extended subnets does not work.

Hi,

I went back to ZeroConf to auto and the 14TB TiVo (192.168.0.228 / Master Bedroom) showed up again. Still no Bedroom (192.168.0.252).

Question: Is there a method I can use to manually talk to the second TiVo unit (e.g. using a browser)? I noticed in the log (see below) what looks to be HTTP commands. Maybe seeing if one can manually talk to it would help.

Again, the 14TB (192.168.0.228) does see the other TiVo (192.168.0.252).

Finally, I changed my Router to only give out IP address from 10 to 248 (instead of 2 to 253).

It's only seeing one…

Master Bedroom - 192.168.0.228

You may want to try rebooting the TiVo itself. Also log on to your account on tivo.com and make sure the sharing options are both checked for that unit. If they’re not you’ll need to check them, wait about 30 minutes, then force two calls on the TiVo.
