I purchased a used RCA DirecTiVo DVR40 on Craigslist. I called directv and they sent me a new access card for it. I then called them and the box is able to recieve programming. However, I can't use the DVR functionality on the unit. Several calls back to customer service have been unsuccessful. They have had me reset the box several times, remove and insert the access card. No help. On my own I tried "clear and delete everything" and still no help. Any ideas?

Make sure they turn on the "DVR" service. The customer service people don't always know to do this on a DVR, sometimes they do not even know it is a DVR you are activating. The DVR Service costs $5.99 per month on your account and covers up to 8 DVR's.

I've already asked them to turn on DVR service. They are unable to get it to work.

Update: turns out that the serial number was wrong; I had CS update it and now it works :)
