My Tivo Series 3HD has not been able to update it's program info for over 3 weeks now. It successfully goes through...Preparing > Connecting > Getting Info > Disconnecting > when it gets to Loading Info, I never get a % count. Eventually it goes back to the previous screen where you can manually start the download. On that screen it shows the date of the last successful download and the last time it tried, along with the Error Code "S03". I looked up the error code and it seems that it might be a hard drive issue. I attempted to enter the "Kickstart mode" so I could try 57, 58, 54, etc. However no matter what I try I cannot get it to work. I restart the system and hold down the Pause button from beginning to powering up screen. I tried pressing Pause repeatedly and holding it down with quick breaks every 10 seconds or so to reset the signal but nothing works.

Any advice?

Do you have cable service with a Tuning Adapter? It would be a box connected to the TiVo with a USB cord. There's a bug in the S3/THD's version of the OS, the Tuning Adapter will cause garbage collection (removal of old past guide data) to hang and timeout, when the OS eventually kills the hung process it reports an S03 error.

If you have a Tuning Adapter, disconnect it while you run the service connection, but note you may need to run it several times before all the old data gets cleared. In the future, you can get around it by disconnecting the TA while the update runs, overnight with a lamp timer or something.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up getting it to work yesterday by unplugging the wireless and letting the guide info completely run out. I also deleted most of the recorded shows. After that, it's connected and loaded the last two times successfully.
