I just ordered a Tivo box and 1 year service gift card for my girlfriend. I was a little suspicious when I got it because the box in came in (not the Tivo box, but the outher box that the tivo box + service card were in) was damaged and the corner of the box was completely opened, like someone had tried to get into it and tamper with it. I'm actually surprised the gift card didn't fall out of it during transit. Anyway, when we opened up the unit, we tried to go online to activate it, but it wouldn't take the 12 digit code. We have a call in to Tivo and they are looking into it. I'm worried that someone might have already grabbed the code and used it for something else. Anyone hear of anything like this, or am I just being paranoid?

It is most likely just abuse by the shipping company and a foul-up at TiVo. Both of those things are quite common, and we don't hear much about fraud.
If someone got a hold of the card during shipment and used the code, why would they put the card back in the box?
I had this problem once and after about week when the code still did not work TiVo told me to pay for the lifetime and they would give me a credit back on my card in about a week, I paid and TiVo did give me the credit back in about a week.jkovach said:
