Have had Humax Series 2 unit for over a year and recently added a 2nd Tivo for the bedroom. Everything worked fine except the signal on the Humax unit which ran through my Comcast cable box would drop after 20-30 minutes. If you changed the channel, the signal would come back but that resolution was obviously unacceptable.

Called Comcast to come out and fix the signal issue. Suggested they install a signal booster as we have a total of 4 TVs (1 with cable box / 3 analog) and 2 TIVOs each with a split - for a total of 6 splits.

Comcast however claimed that the signal that wasn't the problem because the 3 analog TVS worked. I didn't really agree with that but let them install a new cable box.

It worked at first, except the channel changing from Tivo was very funky. Changed from serial to IR connection and now channel changing works just fine but now I don't get ANY channels through the cable box, except On Demand (Channel 1) and the guide overlay. I do still get cable channels on the split signal connected to the same TV via coax and on all 3 analog TVs.

The new cable box (Motorola DCT Model 2224) supports DVR, the old one they replaced did not.

When I called Comcast again...you'll love this...they told me Tivo would NOT work with the new DVR cable box and that I should just use it instead of Tivo as it was basically the "same as Tivo".......NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously the CSR who answered the phone was smoking crack.

Any idea how to resolve?

Boost signal? Replace cable box again? Change setting on cable box?

Very frustrated.

That's fine if Comcast wants to have their own (inferior) DVRs, but if they're going to make their boxes incompatible with TiVo, they're going to have a lot of angry customers switching to RCN or someone else... not to mention maybe a lawsuit -- can they interfere with the operation of a competitor's device like that? I suppose they do own the network and are just letting me use if according to their terms...

After calling comcast again and talking with a supervisor they assured me that Motorola DVR cable box would work with Tivo which is what I pretty much knew all along. The CSR I spoke with orginally was lazy and/or stupid.

Unplugged cable box for 10 minutes and rebooted. Tivo was back!

Can't wait to see the POS Tivo light version Comcast rolls out later this year.

This is something different than the non-TiVo DVR they already offer? What's this "light" thing now...?

Comcast has licensed the TiVO software and it will be the primary software in the DVRs they push. It will hopefully not be "light" in any way.

Supposedly Comcast has a deal where they'll incorporate TiVo software into their DVRs, so they'll be, essentially, TiVos, and be a little more user friendly than they are now.

Story is it'll happen later this year.

If the cable co. gives you more trouble, call and cancel. Then they'll turn you over to a retention specialist who will do almost anything to keep you. Cable companies have learned that there are people who can live without cable and those who can't, and they put all their efforts into keeping the former happy ;)
