No, in order to use MRS or MRV, both devices need an active subscription.
Well at least you can still use if for a digital receiver instead of a digital converter box if you don't have a digital TV! Course, if you going to do that, than probably it would be better to go with with a Tivo with a better tuner like a Series 3.Nope. Without a subscription, the Premiere is just a dumb cable box without an EPG. You can only tune channels.
In fact, with the 14.9.2.2 software update TiVo removed the 30 minute Live TV buffers and disabled trick play for any recordings in the My Shows List for unsubscribed boxes.
Hopefully they will offer a retail version of the Preview soon... But nothing is available today, unless you want to run a video splitter and some type of remote control extender... Downside is that you are limited to one video feed from the TiVo...The TV that it would be used with in my original idea does have an HD Tuner, so that's not the angle. I wanted it to stream TiVo programs from another TiVo box, as I can't afford another TiVo service plan at the moment.
Problem with that idea would be that you'd have to watch the same thing in both rooms at the same time, wouldn't you?Hopefully they will offer a retail version of the Preview soon... But nothing is available today, unless you want to run a video splitter and some type of remote control extender...
