premiere to premiere MRV streaming

I read about the saga where MRV streaming had been released for some premiere users, and then was removed. I don't know what happened after that, but that all seemed to happen over the summer. I then found a youtube video of a guy demonstrating MRV streaming, I don't know when the video was made, but it was posted in October, so I'm wondering if maybe the feature has made any comeback.

Can anyone give me an update? I actually did chat with a CSR at the tivo.com, and they said the feature would be part of the series 4 elite platform. I wanted to check with the community too, because while this guy seemed to know his stuff, sometimes the community knows more.

Thanks.

i just talked to a CSR a couple weeks ago, and they told me they have no plans in the near future to bring MRS to the standard or xl premieres. they did say however, that an update is coming in a week or two that will address a lot of the HDUI problems. I'm with you, i REALLY want MRS on my premieres.
I wouldn't put much stock into anything a CSR says. They obviously have/had some plans to activate MRV or we wouldn't have seen it released.

I think we will see MRV sometime in the future. I wasn't really able to make good use of it because of wireless issues but I bet it would work great now that I have a MoCa setup.
That's a little depressing, but thank you very much for responding. Seems weird to limit to 4 tuner boxes. You'd have to buy 8 tuners just to be able to stream. Why can't they just charge more for the streaming feature itself and let you use it on all boxes clearly capable of handling it? I don't even need 4 tuners, much less 8.

@aadam101, they did say they would bring it to the premiere elite. I do realize 1st tier CSRs can be iffy, but somehow I find it credible (if not rational) they would withhold MRS from standard and xl.

I have a series 2 now, and MRS would be enough to get me to buy 2 premieres, and pay for 2 subscriptions I imagine are more expensive even with the discount than my series 2 sub is and would probably go on for several years. If I can't get MRS, I'm probably going to be looking for non-Tivo options to do the same thing (uverse? yuck). Why don't you want my money TiVo?

With regard to transfer based MRV, do you have to wait for the entire program to transfer before you can begin watching it? Like you said, MRS would be wonderful, but perhaps if I could start watching analog shows in the other room within a couple of minutes of deciding to, one premiere might be worth the cost. Edit: hmm, did find a faq at an aussie tivo site that said you could watch during the transfer, not 100% sure my series 2 would do that yet.

MRS is coming to non-Elite Premiers, it has been mentioned in the past, we are simply waiting for them to release it. Rumor on the timing is that it will come when all Premieres are on the same software version.

With MRV, you can watch as it transfers, with a solid connection it is faster than realtime for most. I can normally ff through 90% of commercials when transferring from a THD, and P to P is much faster for MRV.

You can transfer FROM a S-2 to a P, but going the other way would require SD content.

Thank you very much :) I'm investigating my wired networking options as we speak. Wireless in my area is pretty heavily saturated, I'm surrounded. If powerline isn't better than when I last read about it years and years ago, I'll just run ethernet through the attic.

I only have analog cable, and can live without MRV on my ATSC for now. If TiVo follows through on MRS, I'll grab a second premiere down the line and kill multiple birds with one stone.

That was my youtube video. Unfortunately I can't MRS at the present time. :( It was removed a few days after I made the video. I'm looking forward to its return when 14.9 is released in the next week or so.
Thanks for the demonstration sbiller

Are you an elite user? How far behind are the standard and XL models in software (to anyone who knows)?

My current set-up is one Elite and one Premiere connected over gigE. The Premiere is on 14.8 while the Elite is running 14.9. Both should be getting an update to a newer version of 14.9 soon that support MRS and fixes some of the bugs that have been discussed at length in other threads on this board.

I've been trying to get someone from RCN to provide the detailed software version, flash player version, and HD user interface version for the software that is being rolled out across the RCN enterprise right now but haven't had anyone provide that information.

@tivodesign on twitter has confirmed multiple times via tweets that a software upgrade is coming to all Premiere boxes very soon. My speculation is it will start rolling out later this week or early next week before the holiday.
Folks, just to clarify, MRV an MRS are two different things.

MRV (multi room VIEWING) actually transfers the program to the other device. You are able to start watching immediately, but can't fast forward past what has already been transferred. With MRV, transferring recordings with the copy protected bit enabled is impossible.

MRS (STREAMING) plays the program, bit by bit, over the network, just like streaming from netflix does. MRS allows fast forwarding to any point and also allows viewing copy protected programs since you're not technically copying them anymore, just streaming.

Hope this helps clarify a bit.

In the next week? That seems optimistic. :)

Hope so.. :)

Seems to me everyone here is discussing them in their appropriate context, though I didn't know all the shorthand when I made the thread. Thanks for chiming in.

Optimism is good :) Not good enough for me to buy a second premiere early, but good. ;)
