That is also sold in conjunction with the Elite. It isn't sold separately.http://www.weaknees.com/tivo-premiere-hd-dvr-series4.php#premelite
Looks like Weaknees has found a compatible drive:
I am sure it is an off the shelf drive but I am also sure they manually married it to the Elite (not plug and play). Is it likely to be an off the shelf drive or something specifically for the Elite?
They all worked unless they had some wonky built in sata controller instead of just powering the disk and a normal sata port.has anyone ever found a drive that didn't work with an S3 (which was wide open)? i used 3 different ones on S3's and never had a problem. I cant imagine WD doesn't make at least a few more options that would work. they could add those to the list and give us some options.
Anyone???Where are the instructions for marrying an external drive to the Elite? I have a 2TB drive that I could use for such a purpose!
i'd even put up with only 1TB to be official but the sanctioned drive is completely out of stock at pretty much every internet retailer. Tivo doesnt even have it availible on their website.
i get they must have some deal with WD but add more WD esata drives to the approved list for crying out loud.

Actually there were some Seagate FreeAgent Pro drives that were deemed "not compatible" and they will not PnP with an S3.They all worked unless they had some wonky built in sata controller instead of just powering the disk and a normal sata port.
I actually had 2 free agent pro's on my 2 s3's. The logs did show weird stuff but playback was a never a problem. They DID die prematurely but they basically worked - so maybe some controller oddities but they didn't brick themselves or the TiVo. I think there were many of us with those drives when they first came out.Actually there were some Seagate FreeAgent Pro drives that were deemed "not compatible" and they will not PnP with an S3.
Yes.Is the drive that comes in the Tivo Premiere Elite 2TB?
