In short, yes, Tivo is perfectly capable of doing that(of course in conjuction with some sort of display, to view the Tivo's output, at the destination). If this is to be done often, extra caution will need to exercised in transporting the Tivo. It's not exactly designed as a portable device.

However, longer term, you may eventually find a less cumbersome method, (than taking the Tivo on the road) to achieve that end.

Don't get a TiVo Premiere. Both me and my best friend bought them, and they crash and restart several times a day. You can find other threads about this in this community. Apparently it's an acknowledged software problem that has yet to be fixed.

The Premier's HDUI seems to be dependent upon an internet connection - so use the traditional SDUI, which looks just fine IMO, when on the road.

So people have problems with their Tivos, some don't, shrug.

My Premiere is dong fine - no restarts, no rebooting. However, the remote is getting sluggish but I use a Harmony Remote most of the time and I've notice no sluggishness with it. I only use the TiVo slide remote (which is way too sensitive anyway) for the keyboard.

I have a nice LCD TV in the room I am using and currently have it pulling the local digital programming. The reason I am looking at the Tivo for it, is once I am done with this assignment in Dec I want to put the Tivo and TV into a spare bedroom as a permanent setup.

I have a couple of large laptop bag/cases that should be large enough to hold the Tivo for travel storage.

Thanks, I just didn't want to make the investment and find out if locked out if the cable system wasn't attached. Having never seen a tivo in action yet does not having the outside world connection cause any slowdown issues or quirks?

Good to know about the SDUI, thank you.

I have heard the same "some do, some don't" for just about everything including my Roku, but that works fine too.
