Phone line for the HR20

I have not had a home phome for about two years my dtivo has had no problems without being hooked up to a phone line but I have read that the HD recivers have to have one is this true if it is I might have to go with comcast since the price of a landline will cost as much or more than the extra comcast charges me, I also think with the new channels dtv will be the best for hd

Nope. Don't need one unless you order PPV. I haven't tried it but you can probably just order online if you really want to.

An HR20 is not a dtivo, but uses Direct TV's OS. An HR10-250 is tivo based.
