I've recently lost the service of our faithful DSR704 TiVo unit due to digital glitching on satellite input two (although only the local channels were glitching.) After a week or so of troubleshooting and trying the reciever at different locations in my home, I was left with only one option from DirecTV: "upgrade" to a DirecTV Plus reciever for only S&H.

After about a week of DTV's crap, my wife's ready to run the new reciever over with her car and I'm needing solutions.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing the problem on my Phillips reciever and are there ways for me to fix it (I've seen the DVRupgrade kits, although I was hoping for a cheaper fix.)

I'd really appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Jeff

I'm not sure I understand the problem(s) you're having with the Philips Tivo. If the problem only happens on Sat2, did you try swapping the satellite cables to see if the problem "moved" to Sat1? If it moved then something is wrong with the cable/multiswitch. If it stayed on Sat2, then it's probably a defective tuner. You could continue to use this DVR with just one tuner.

Swapped the cables, but the issue stayed with Sat2. We tried using the receiver this way for a few weeks, but we weren't able to keep the local channels off Sat2, and wound up recording about half our programs with so many glitches that they were almost unwatchable.

I've read about the problems with the 6.3 software upgrade, and while I'm not sure if my unit received the update, my problems don't sound like any of the issues other viewers are having.

If the Sat 2 coax connector is immediately adjacent to a used S-video connector remove the S-video cable and try using composite video.

Neither the s-video cable nor the compostie outputs are used. I was hooked up to the TV via coax out of the RF out connection.

You need to rerun the guided setup and tell the box that you have only one cable connected that will "turn off" the Sat 2.
