Does anyone have any information on how well the new HD Tivos (both the Series 3 and the HDTiVo) do with over-the-air (OTA) signals. I have an HR10-250 DirecTiVo and the OTA performance has always been a bit iffy for me. I was thinking I might go ahead and buy a new standalone HD TiVo for OTA recordings only.

Anybody have any ideas on whether they think it is worth trying?

I ran my HR10-250's side by side with my S3's for about a month. The S3's were able to pick up some channels that the HR10-250 couldn't tune. Also appeared to be more stable (less pixelation) on some of the channels.

Here is another thread which compares the two -- much of the discussion is around the DirecTV versus cable but there is also discussion of OTA mixed in there.

My HR10 could never pick up our PBS station, which I technically pick up off the back of my antenna. The S3 picks it up most of the time, although there are pixelation issues from time to time, but really not that bad given I am 180 degrees out of phase.

Both the S3 and THD have far superior OTA tuners than the HR10-250. In my case, they turned unwatchable channels (frequent pixelation) into watchable ones. With a rooftop antenna, I highly recommend the S3/THD for OTA recording.

Good Luck!
