Maybe the demise of the CableCard has been somewhat exaggerated: I just got the following letter from Optimum. Bad news: NDS has discontinued support. Good news: Optimum is not abandoning them (just yet), but replacing them with ones from PowerKey/Scientific Atlanta. So hope springs eternal....

I just saw a post on Reddit 5 hours ago :
I recently got this letter from Optimum telling me that on April 1st, you will lose service to any tv using a cable card instead of a cable box to watch tv. It’s also telling me that my cable card was at the end of life and they’re sending me a replacement cable card from a different company.


I'd say thats pretty misleading-- "you will lose service" and then "sending me a replacement card". it looks like Optimum is going out of its way to keep Tivo customers!!
